Eyebrow lift

Some people can look tired or angry, even when they’re actually feeling quite ok. This is often because the eyebrows have started to sag putting pressure on the upper eye lid. This is often a combination of constitution and age.

An (endoscopic) eye brow lift – possibly in combination with an eye lid correction – can correct this. After consultation with your plastic surgeon, you might also want to opt for an aptos lift or an extensive endoscopic forehead lift.

The surgery

Endoscopic eyebrow lift

With an endoscopic eyebrow lift, your plastic surgeon makes several small incisions arching along the upper border of the forehead within the hairline. An endoscope (a tube with a torch and a magnifier) is used to closely examine the incision site so the eyebrow lift can be carried out accurately. Using this instrumentation, the muscles and underlying structures are re-suspended. No skin is removed and the hairline stays in approximately the same position, while the eyebrows are moved up.

The eyebrow lift is done under general anaesthetic and you may go home the same day. Initially there may be some bruising or swelling, but it will go away within a week.

Traditional eye brow lift

With a traditional eyebrow lift the plastic surgeon makes small incisions just above the eyebrow. This way he removes the excess skin on the brow and the brow is simply pulled up.

It is also possible to have a suspension lift with soluble stitches. This requires fewer and smaller incisions. Two 1 millimeter incisions are made in the brow itself and two other incisions are made in the hairline, directly above the eyebrow incisions. Then a catheter is used to tunnel underneath the skin between the brow and hairline incisions. Sutures are used to hold the eyebrows at the higher position.

Depending on your skin’s condition, the plastic surgeon may decide to make an incision at the sides of the forehead (temple). He then creates an entrance to the side of the eyebrow. The binding tissue is pulled tight and is re-suspended this way.

This type of eyebrow lift takes (just like the endoscopic eye brow lift) approximately one hour and is also done under general anaesthetic. You may go home the same day. The day after the operation mild swelling and blood loss might occur. These are just temporary side-effects that will disappear within a week.

After the stitches are removed the scars may be a bit red. The incisions are made in very discrete places. For younger people with fewer wrinkles in the brow area, an endoscopic eyebrow lift is the preferred option.

The results of an eyebrow lift are long-lasting.
