Chin lift

A neck correction, neck lift or chin lift is performed to treat wrinkled and sagging skin at the height of the chin and neck. This is the so-called double chin.

A chin lift is often combined with a macs-facelift, an aptoslift, a forehead lift, an eye lid correction and/or a liposculpture.

The surgery

With a neck or a chin lift an incision is made in front of and behind the ear and around the earlobe. The skin is loosened and pulled tight. Typically, a neck lift will include the removal of excess fat.

The operating surgeon can sometimes chose to make a small incision under the chin when performing a chin lift to tighten neck muscles, a process that gets rid of unwanted band lines.

A chin lift is performed under general anesthesia and the procedure lasts approximately two hours.

Post operative care

A neck or chin lift takes approximately two hours and is performed under general anesthesia. This means that you can go home on the same day as the surgery.

After the chin lift a loose bandage is immediately applied. This bandage may be removed two days after the procedure.

The first couple of days there might be some mild bruising and swelling, but this is only temporary. The stitches are removed approximately one week after the procedure. In the beginning the scars will be red and thick, but over time they will fade until eventually they will be scarcely noticeable. The result of a chin lift is usually visible after three months and is generally lasting.
