Chin correction

A successful chin correction can help obtain a more harmonious profile of the face by resituating the chin forwards, backwards, upwards or downwards. It can also be the perfect cosmetic solution for an underdeveloped or receding chin, or it can take away the focus from a large or prominent nose. The nose can also be made smaller.

A chin correction can be combined with rhinoplasty (nose correction), a neck lift and/or a facelift. The plastic surgeon will inform you about the procedure that offers the best result.

The surgery

A chin correction is done under general anesthesia and takes about one hour. An incision is made under the chin or inside the mouth. A pocket is then created under the chin muscles and the periosteum of the jaw where the chin implant can be placed and secured. The incision is finally sutured.

An incision inside the mouth leaves no scar, but involves a higher risk of infection.

Post operative care

You can go home the day of the chin correction. You will need to wear a compressive garment placed on the chin area to minimize swelling and to support the chin implant for about 1 week. You should be able to reassume work afterwards. Swelling and discoloration of the skin will disappear a couple of weeks after the chin correction.
